How to use it
- Type or paste your caption, title or post.
- The table shows how each platform counts it, the limit and what's left. A red bar means it's too long there.
- Below it you'll see words, lines, hashtags and mentions, and how long the text takes to read aloud.
Why the numbers differ between platforms
X doesn't count characters one by one. It weighs them: most Latin letters, digits and punctuation count 1, while emoji and characters such as Chinese, Japanese or Korean count 2, and any link counts as 23 whatever its length. That's why a short post full of emoji can hit 280 early. The counter follows X's published counting rules; X's own composer has the final word.
Bluesky counts what you see as one character, so a thumbs-up with a skin tone is 1. Most other limits here are counted per Unicode character, where that same emoji is 2.
Limits used here
X: 280 for free accounts (paid accounts can post longer). Instagram caption: 2,200, with at most 5 hashtags. TikTok caption: 4,000 in the app; some scheduling tools stop at 2,200. YouTube: title 100, description 5,000. Threads: 500. Bluesky: 300.
Being under a limit isn't the goal. Feeds cut captions after a line or two behind more, so put the hook in the first line.
Questions
- Does it count emoji correctly?
- It counts them the way each platform does as far as their rules are published: 2 on X, 1 on Bluesky, and per Unicode character elsewhere, where some emoji are made of two or more characters.
- Is my text saved?
- No. Everything is counted in your browser.
- Do line breaks count?
- Yes, each line break is a character on every platform listed.
